About me

I am proud to say that I am one of the rare Atlanta, Georgia natives: A southern belle, a Georgia Peach... well, you get it. I began to work full-time after my father had a medical emergency that kept him from working his customary long hours. I decided to leave college and focus on running the business with my brother. While working at the restaurant, I began to pursue my passion, and began studying voice more frequently with some amazing teachers: Jeanne Brown McDonald, Sally Priester, Courtenay Collins, and Michael Monroe.

Performing in community theaters and some semi-professional theaters in Atlanta, I ventured out and tried a little bit of everything. I sang with a Women's Barbershop Choir and spent four seasons singing at the Georgia Renaissance Festival with a wonderful group of musician friends. We called ourselves "The Atlanta Notables," a four-part a cappella ensemble. This kind of music touched my soul, and I was in harmony heaven! The Notables also appeared at private events during the Holiday season, at weddings, and other special events. I knew this was something special, and that I needed more. And so it goes!

A lot of my customers at our restaurant knew I was a singer and they were always interested in whatever I was doing musically or theatrically at the time. Occasionally, I would burst out into some kind of a song or vocal warm-up while I was working: The always favorite and unexpected, Operatic Tomahawk Chop, while the Braves played in the world series on the overhead television screens, caused a lot for fun and funny reactions from our customers.

I was cast and began to sing regularly with The Southeastern Savoyards, Atlanta's Gilbert and Sullivan Light Opera Company, today known as The Atlanta Lyric Theatre. I enjoyed performing with the company for almost ten years. As I continued to perform in semi-professional theater throughout the Atlanta area, I continued my vocal studies and participated in a variety of theatrical workshops at The Alliance Theater, Actors Express and Horizon Theater, including a Master Audition Class with Tony Award Winning Actor/Singer, Schuler Hensley.

Raised in the Lebanese Maronite Catholic Church, I cantored and sang in choirs both In English and Arabic/Aramaic. I continued to sing there throughout my college years, but soon many musician friends encouraged me to join in singing with a Contemporary Ensemble in the Roman Catholic Church. I have cantored at numerous Catholic churches in Atlanta and sung at a multitude of weddings, funerals, and ceremonial church events. I am and always will be comfortable singing in a variety of multi-denominational Christian ceremonial events.

It is a blessing to be involved in and consumed by something that is so important to me in my life. I am not someone that just "loves" to sing -- I "live" to sing! Let me sing for you!

What I Do

Weddings

I take pride in delivering a captivating performance that you, your partner, your family, and guests will remember for years to come. I work closely with you to ensure that the music you choose for your wedding ceremony sets the right atmosphere and aligns with the type of venue and service you are having.

Theatre

I have been involved in Atlanta Theater for more than 25 years, and love to keep my feet wet throughout the year by auditioning as much as I can. I try to do at least one show a year when time allows.

funerals

I sing for Celebration of Life, Funeral, and Memorial Services in metro Atlanta. I'm available to sing with your provided church organist / pianist. The universal language of music is calming, healing, uplifting, and unifying when people gather together in remembrance. Vocal solos enhance the service by providing a wonderful tribute, and I can also lead hymns.

Planning music for the service

There are different service outlines you can follow for selecting music. Your service location or officiant can give you a planning outline to assist you, then contact me with your music selections or questions. Music varies depending on the location, whether it's a church funeral, celebration of life, or memorial remembrance service. Music can be sent to me by Fax or PDF files.

Testimonials

"The only person I considered calling to sing in my wedding was Renee Payne. I have known Renee for over ten years and have worked with her in several theatre productions. I can sincerely attest that Renee is consummate professional, but more importantly she sings from her heart. Her beautiful spirit and voice added so much to my wedding day. Renee was also instrumental in consulting with me on what songs might be a fit for the ceremony, and I found her years of experience and knowledge very helpful in choosing music selections. Overall I couldn't have asked for a better soloist."

"When we got married there was only one choice of who would sing on our important day, Renee fortunately was available on our date. We have been married for 18 years now, however I still remember how moved I was when Ave Maria was sung by Renee. We had friends and family from all over the country who attended our wedding and received countless compliments on our music & Renee's voice. Renee made the ceremony beautiful and unforgettable. I have always said that Renee has a voice of an angel, a true gift from God, and we were blessed to have her be apart of our day. Thank you Renee for the wonderful memories!"

"Renee Payne as one of the Deacons at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Atlanta, I knew Renee as a member of our traditional choir and soloist at the church. As a deacon, I have seen and heard many liturgical and sacramental performers, but few have been as good or have had such a heartfelt angelic voice as Renee. Renee sang at my Mother's memorial service, she was a fine example of an outstanding singer and very professional. It is always a pleasure to be around her. My wife and i always look forward to watching her perform on-stage in her theatrical performances and to hear her beautiful voice, I highly recommend Renee's services."

"I am so glad that Renee was part of our wedding day. Upon our first meeting with her, she went through our entire program and was so flexible with our requests. She made me feel very reassured that all would go smoothly with our very difficult program and was extremely professional! She went further and contacted the church organist to set up a meeting separately to go over the program and get things ironed out, and even came early to the church on the big day to get started setting everything up. The ceremony music and vocals were absolutely beautiful. Her voice was the perfect touch. My husband and I requested that she sing "The Prayer", and everyone just had great things to say about it afterwards. We got a lot of compliments on Renee's vocals, she is so friendly and an absolute pleasure to work with. Wouldn't change a thing! Thanks again!"

"Renee is simply so awesome! I wanted to walk down the aisle on Ave Maria and we chose a few other songs for my husband and the bridal party. Renee was absolutely gorgeous in all of them. Her voice is so angelic and very touching beside her warm personality and professionalism. Thank you Renee for being part of my big day and making it even more special with your love hearted voice and beautiful presence."

"Your singing was so special to me at my wedding because of the beautiful and classic way you performed each of the very special songs I chose for my wedding. The Ave Maria was especially endearing as it has been a long time favorite in our family among my Grandmother, Aunts and my own mother. Music is such a part of life and really sets the mood for the serious ceremony that is a wedding. Of course I was already so familiar with your voice prior to my wedding, so it was such a comfort to put all worry out of my mind as far as the music was concerned. I was so glad you were a part of my very special day. Thank you again Renee."
